The Progressive Salem Board of Directors has endorsed Matt Ausec for the open Salem City Council seat in Ward 5. Ward 5 is the northernmost ward in Salem. It has been represented in recent years by Diana Dickey who has chosen not to run for reelection this year.
Matt is a homeowner in Ward 5 and has recently started a new job as a policy analyst for the Oregon Department of Administrative Services. For about five years he was a lead policy analyst for the Oregon Health Authority in Salem. He holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Portland State University and a B.A. degree in Political Science from Boston University. He has been active in the Democratic Party as a state delegate and as a volunteer in the Jeff Merkley campaign.
If elected Matt wants to work hard on the issues of greatest concern to residents of Ward 5. In his canvassing Matt has heard concerns about crime and vandalism and graffiti that need greater attention from the City. Matt sees lots of potential in the Portland Road Corridor Strategic Action Plan and wants to work to make sure it doesn’t just sit on a shelf. He is concerned about the lack of public library service in Ward 5 and wants to look for ways to make the library more accessible to children and families there.
